Sherwin Food Safety, helps food service and lodging operations comply with Health Department regulations to protect the health of your customers, employees, and your business. We offer a wide array of services including food safety certifications, crisis response, HACCP compliance, quality assurance audits, training and development, and secret shopper reports.


Food Safety Certifications

Sherwin Food Safety is proud to feature food safety education and certification programs for employees and managers from the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals (NRFSP), utilizing training materials from the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), and from ServSafe® of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

NRFSP is the largest food safety certification program in the world, and ServSafe is recognized in 95% of the jurisdictions in the United States. SFS can customize the content for either of these excellent programs to meet the specific training needs of your organization. Instruction and course materials are currently available in English and in Spanish. See our schedule of classes for details.

Special note to operators in Washington, DC: SFS instructors are recognized and approved to offer the new food safety education and certification requirements for the District of Columbia, which have been in effect since January 1, 2004.

Specialists in Crisis Response

Closure or imminent closure due to health code violations:  In the event that your establishment is cited for critical violations or closed due to code violations, Sherwin Food Safety, will work closely with the health department to determine the exact problems and help you make appropriate corrections to bring your operation back into compliance and re-opened quickly.

Investigation of food borne illness complaints and suspected outbreaks:  The public is much more sensitive about food safety issues. In the unfortunate event of a food borne illness complaint or suspected outbreak, SFS will coordinate all aspects of the investigation, including taking food samples for laboratory analysis, bringing in our expert medical team for enteric testing and diagnosis, and if necessary, working cooperatively with local health department officials.

Medical Referral Service:  Healthy businesses have healthy workers. Food handlers with poor personal hygiene habits, or who are carriers of contagious diseases can devastate your reputation and your investment. SFS recognizes the importance of hiring individuals free of disease, and maintaining the health of current employees. SFS can recommend physicians that are sensitive to the unique medical needs of the hospitality industry.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)

Increasingly, regulatory agencies are requiring food service operations to have working HACCP plans and HACCP flow charts in place. A HACCP plan is a written document that defines the formal procedures for following hazard analysis critical control points principles for potentially hazardous foods prepared and served in an establishment. Sherwin Food Safety, will help you design a comprehensive plan that will be effective, user friendly, and comply with all regulations.


Quality Assurance Audits - Third Party Verification

All food service operators should have an internal Quality Assurance system in order to determine if their operations comply with health department regulations and standards. Sherwin Food Safety, will establish an effective risk management program, and train your staff how to use this system on a daily basis. SFS will conduct periodic inspections using our state-of-the-art computerized audit program to verify that your internal QA system is working properly.
